- you are the first lot of students to work with the new course
- the course is compromised of three components
- 2x exams (70 percent overall) and 1x non-examinable assessment (30 percent overall)
- both exams are 75 mins long (paper 1 has 30 mins extra for viewing time for tv drama)

-SECTION B: Online news in-depth study and newspapers
NEA - COURSEWORK
- this is practical work that you do in class.
- unlike the previous spec, the coursework briefs will change every year - which keeps all of us guessing!
- having said that, you will definitely have the choice of the following briefs
- music videos
- online, social participatory
- television
- there is a heavy emphasis on the quality of the final product, although you also need to provide detailed planning and a statement of intent
- the NEA is done individually - but of course you can and should get some help from others (particularly if you need actors, camera actors, camera operators, people to help with lighting or sound recording etc…)

create the opening 2 minutes of an original rock music video aimed at 14-18 yo
you can use an existing song as the basis of your music video.

create a homepage and one linked web page for a website or a fictional charity campaign website targeted at an audience of 14 - 18 yo

- cover price, barcode, edition number
- original images: at least one on front cover
- at least 6 cover lines of which one must link to the double page spread article
Double page spread:
- headline, stand-first and sub-headings
- original image: one main article image at least three other images
- feature article of approximately 300 words that link to one of the cover lines.
Brief 2: Audio/visual
create a two minutes of opening scenes for a television soap opera aimed at an audience of 14-18 year olds.
these opening scenes may or may not include a title sequence
The scenes may include up to 20 seconds of found footage
Must include:
- a narrative structure establishing at least two different storylines within the episode. these include a minimum of two different characters and locations.
- a range of shots, angles and movement
- use of diegetic sounds
- editing footage and dialogue
Brief 3: Music video
create the opening 2 minutes of an original rock music video aimed at 14-18 yo
you can use an existing song as the basis of your music video.
The scenes may include up to 20 seconds of found footage
Must include:
- at least two filming locations
- a narrative appropriate to a music video
- a range of camera shots, angles and movement
- editing of original footage to match the song / genre of music
Brief 4: Online, social and participatory
create a homepage and one linked web page for a website or a fictional charity campaign website targeted at an audience of 14 - 18 yo
some found images are permitted in addition to the required minimum of three original images
Must include:
- at least three images
- menu/navigation bar and one working link between the homepage and another page of the website
- text promoting the campaign (150 - 200) words
- 45 seconds of original audio or visual material embedded into one of the pages
