- GEAR GEEKS: film making is about film and action. the gear wont make you more imaginative and have more ideas. don't be too afraid just to go out with a DSLR. JUST GO OUT THERE. don't have too much gear you don't know how to use. KEEP IT SIMPLE
- BEING AFRAID: don't be scared to try something new. you learn from your mistakes. TRY NEW THINGS. don't let your mental barriers keep you down. the more films you make the better you will be at making them.
- UNTRUSTING: untrusting of other filming communities. SHARE YOUR IDEAS WITH OTHER PEOPLE.
- PASSIVENESS: you have to GO OUT AND FILM. don't just sit back and be passive its not just going to come to you. GET INVOLVED
- FEARS: don't be scared to try and make a film. EXPERIMENT. the fear of making film holds many people back. YOU HAVE GOT TO CLAIM IT.
- SLOW EDITING: put the essential info in and cut out he inessential in.
- BAD SOUND: is a big give away of a low budget films. IF THERE IS BAD SOUND NO-ONE IS GOUNG TO WATCH THE FILM.
- BAD ACTING: bad actors often OVER OR UNDER DRAMATIZE A MOMENT. bad acting can ruin the film and take you out of the moment. CAST WITH CARE.
- WEAK STORYLINE: the characters need a clear goal. don't have an UNDERCOOKED SCRIPT.
- DEAD SPACE: don't have dead space. use the RULE OF THIRDS. try to add more meaning to your shots.
- POOR LIGHTING: lighting is not an option it is a necessity.
- UNNECESSARY INSERT SHOTS: don't have unnecessary shot of unimportant items.
- LINGERING: long shots of uninteresting bits of action. most of the excess movement can be cut out.
- PAUSES/SILENCES: are good to build TENSION. however, too many of them can ruin the film and slow the film down dramatically. be selective.
- BLOCKING: movement works wonders. ADD MOVEMENT. no-one stand still and talks like mannequins.
- FIRST MOMENTS: have a catchy opening to grab your audience.
- GENERIC MUSIC: be very selective with the music. use new music that is not generic and that is relevant.
